    Your metal bench makes me nervous. The likelihood is you are in contact with it when working so your body is earthed if the bench is earthed, so if you touch B+ the current will flow through you. With my wooden bench and floor in a dry environment, I could touch B+ and the bench and not get a shock. I need to touch two different voltage parts to get a shock, not just one. The other possibility is that your bench isn't earthed, so it takes on a voltage from anything that touches it, like a live chassis.

    • @theradiomechanic9625
      @theradiomechanic9625 11 часов назад

      Every set on the bench is connected to an isolation transformer. It is as safe or dangerous as any radio when you touch the B+. Having a wooden bench and touching the B+ isn't any safer if you come in contact with the chassis. Always work with an isolation transformer is the advice I give in many videos. Even when working on sets with transformers as the AC is always present. Thanks for your concern, but I have over 60 years experience doing this. Every shock I have ever received was when working on a wooden bench. Isolation transformers can be had for as little as $50 brand new, and much cheaper second hand. Cheap insurance.

    I wouldn't doubt it's measuring flow. their pitcher style water purifiers used to have an interesting mechanical thing inside that measures how much water has flowed through it to determine when it's time to change it. there could be a second hall effect sensor soldered to the pcb on the back side to pick up the turbine pulses. they also could be doing some timing as well, so that once a new filter is installed it will start a timer and "expire" it after 6 months or whatever in addition to measuring flow. it probably sleeps and only wakes up once a second or so to test the hall sensors to save power and will power up fully when it sees a change in the sensors.

    • @theradiomechanic9625
      @theradiomechanic9625 4 дня назад

      The unit comes on when the flow starts, but goes to sleep after 6 blinks no matter how long the water is on. I just change them every 4 months.

    What's the power output for GMRS?

    • @theradiomechanic9625
      @theradiomechanic9625 6 дней назад

      Good question, and Not easy to answer. The power requirements are a bewildering mish mash. Some channels allow 5 watts, some channels allow 50 watts and some limit you to 1/2 watt. Technically this radio would be non conforming as it can only select 2 watts/5 watts. The list I have in front of me states that FRS can use 2 watts or 1/2 watt depending on channel. And is limited to fixed antenna only. Meaning you cannot have a radio with a removable antenna. I swear I saw on line that some channels FRS only allow 100 milliwatts ( 0.1 watt ) but I cannot find that now. The lists can be found many places on line and are too extensive to put here.

    One of the biggest scams perpetrated on the American people. If you think about it, they spent more money on an indicator to tell you to change the filter. The reason why there’s more money to be made in replacement filters than what the unit is worth. You’re probably contaminating the water more than you’re actually filtering the water. Because the water sits in the plastic, it’s leaching PFAS and the particulate from the filter is adding to the contaminating water.

With Clive there's a possibility of some adult beverages and mild profanities, as well 🙂

    So, you're saying the R-everse gear is on the R-ight side? The drive pulley goes clockwise, cause the engine does.. 😂😂😂 you're working on my Yardman... Scored it for $200 after I fixed the sellers truck. The blades had been on there for so long they were 16 inches long (new ones are 18 inches.) put more grease in all the spindel bearings. Straightened the speed control parts. Put the right plug in. Started it up got fifty feet bogged the blades and killed the engine. Went to restart and the key switch blew apart internally ☹️🤣

    Thanks for your reply on my carb question. My starter drags when I try to crank my yard machine tractor. Do you have a video on replacing it? Would the solenoid cause this or should I replace the starter? Thanks in advance.

    • @theradiomechanic9625
      @theradiomechanic9625 12 дней назад

      Many things can cause a starter to "drag". Without doing some diagnosis I can only speculate. Bad/corroded connections, Old battery, bad solenoid, worn starter brushes etc. I would first start with a voltmeter and see if the battery voltage drops below 10 volts on cranking. Check for voltage drops across all connections etc. South main auto channel does several videos on how to check for voltage drop. Same procedures apply.

    Have you run across an issue with the audio on the FT-897D dropping off? It seems only on 10m.. occasionally, SSB signals (audio and s-meter readings) are greatly diminished. If I key and then unkey the radio, the audio and s-meter readings return to normal. Issue comes and goes.. may be good for 2 minutes, 2 weeks, or 2 months before it happens again. Possibly a filter issue? Radio is ~20 years old and I am the original owner. I see no direct contact method on your RUclips channel. The radio, otherwise, appears to be fully functional.

    • @theradiomechanic9625
      @theradiomechanic9625 13 дней назад

      Not familiar with that radio. However I am willing to go out on a limb and say that it uses a relay in the T/R changeover. Your symptom is the exact one that occurs when relay contacts begin to age. It may even use relays to switch band filters. Time to get a service manual and start checking the receive path.

  • @CanadaRobertW
    @CanadaRobertW 13 дней назад

    Haha. The only intelligent thing I can add is that the original tips have a cross section of 2.3mm x 2.0mm = 4.83 sq. mm. A number 12 wire has a cross sectional area of 3.46mm. A number 10 wire has a cross sectional area of 5.3 sq. mm. The resistivity of a # 12 wire is 1.588 ohms / 1000 ft. and a #10 wire has a resistivity of 0.999 ohms /1000 ft. so by ratio, the original tip should be around 1.097 ohms /1000 ft. I think the #10 wire will be more suitable than the #12 wire to be closer to the original design. I haven't tried the #12 wire but mine works great with the #10 wire on the 100/140 watt gun. Got to have enough resistance on the secondary or you will heat up the inside of the transformer. Heat kills the magnet wire on the primary side.

    Thanks for your post. Do you do carb rebuild?

    • @theradiomechanic9625
      @theradiomechanic9625 13 дней назад

      I rebuild my own, but in many cases I can find carbs on line for $30 and it isn't worth the time to rebuild them. Problem today is alcohol in the fuel sits in the carb and corrodes them. I have a fuel shutoff in the fuel line. I shut down the mover by shutting off the fuel and letting it run until it quits. This way there isn't fuel sitting in the carb. Next start turn on the tap and fresh fule flows into the carb.

    Regarding your Canon EOS camera and battery pack, Canon has a DC-adapter and external power that can replace the rechargable battery. This way you can run the camera on mains power and not relay on the battery. DR-E10 is the DC-adapter that goes in the camera in place of the battery. CA-PS700 is the power adapter that plugs into the DC-adapter. BTW, I have a bunch of these batteries lying around after swapping them out for the DC-adapter.
